Back With You Once Again

So, I am saying once again, “it has been awhile”.

It has been over five months since my last post.

Five months, so hard to believe!

I have done a bunch of soul searching during this time, also new health issues filled my days with overwhelming worry.

Should I give up my blog or continue?

It hasn’t been the success I had hoped for, it is difficult to build followers.

Giving up my blog was always there, but now more than ever, with the craziness of our world, I know I need to keep it going.

I need to be able to share the things that give me joy in my life.

During these past months I missed sharing Thanksgiving posts like this sweet burlap table runner.

I stenciled the words, “thankful, grateful, blessed”, down the center.

Such an easy project that I used on my kitchen table on Thanksgiving Day.

A simple look, simple to make.

I missed sharing Christmas projects like these ornaments made from $1 cookie cutters, painted gold.

How rewarding to take inexpensive cookie cutters and change them into special ornaments.

So beautiful on my tree.

I also made some cute ornaments from wood rings, painted white and gold.

Added photos, words, and finished up by adding some eye hooks.

Love to use photos to personalize holidays whenever possible.

How sweet on my trees.

Love them!

I loved my trees this year, white, gold, with lots of snow, and a whimsy one, red and white.

I have been working on a few Easter projects.

Easter will be different this year, no church services, no large family meals, no community egg hunts, but I hope you all have still filled your homes with bunnies and eggs.

Just a few of our favorite Easter treasures, the ones we all keep and display year after year, the ones with meaning and memories, are good for our spirits.

I added this stenciled pillow this year.

I found the stencil on Amazon, and the pillow cover and paints I had in my craft stash.

Stenciling is not difficult, I found the secret is to add very little paint to your brush, almost dry.

I hope you and your loved ones are safe.

We will all get through this terrible time.

It will end and we can all be together with those we love once again.

Happy Easter

Before this day ends, let me express my hope that you and your family had a blessed Easter.

Our Lord has risen as He said He would.

Our Easter was quiet and peaceful.

Gone are the days of hiding my son’s Easter basket, egg hunts, and choosing just the cutest stuffed bunny I could find for him.

Miss those days so very much, but thankful my little family was together again this year.

I still color eggs and decorate my home a bit for this holiday.

Bunnies everywhere!

A garland of bunnies made with colorful cardstock paper and pom-poms for tails.

Two old wood bunnies, made new again.

This one just needing a new ribbon and a new sign.

This one simply made with a piece of scrapbook paper decoupaged to a wood bunny cutout with Mod Podge. So simple, so lovely!

Jars filled with my son and husband’s favorite treats.

Made with jars from the $1 store and Easter figurines spray painted and glued to the lids with E6000 glue.

Cards were made for my dear sister and brother using old Easter photos. I love them, they are so precious.

I suppose those old Easter days are gone, but my love of creating and decorating for the holidays will always be with me, packed up each year to use again and again.

As we lowered our heads before our dinner, we spoke of realizing our lives have meaning because of our Lord’s Resurrection, we have hope, the hope of eternal life.

Happy Easter my friends.

Peat Pot Easter Baskets

Sharing a simple Easter project today using garden peat pots.

To complete this project you will need any craft paint, a sponge brush, Easter napkins or images, and Mod Podge.

The first step is to apply a coat or two of paint to the pots, depending on the look you want.

I personally like a bit of a distressed look, allowing some of the pot to show through.

The next step is cutting out the images for the pots.

I used some Peter Rabbit Easter napkins I found at TJ Maxx for $2.99, and some images I found online and printed out on tissue paper.

For this project thin paper works best.

Cut out your images leaving as little area around each one as possible.

Apply a coat of Mod Podge to the area on the pot that you want to apply an image, and smooth out with your fingers.

When you have finished applying all the images, apply a coat of Mod Podge over each image to seal.



That’s it!

I added grass to the inside of the pots and a piece of wire for the handles.

Simple is best for me, but you can embellish your pots in many ways, such as adding ribbon.

Now the fun begins, filling the baskets with goodies!

How sweet they are sitting around your home, as gifts, or one placed on each plate at the Easter dinner table.

If you are short of time, just a plain peat pot filled with something special would be so cute too!

Easter Blessings

Blessings to all on this Easter Sunday.

A day to rejoice!

My Savior, my Lord, my Friend, has risen.

His resurrection should quiet all our fears of what is to come.

My growing faith is so important to me.

My troubled life calmed when my Lord entered my heart.

I was sitting quietly, very early on this Easter morning, remembering, and longing, for the Easter Sundays when I was growing up.

Miss those days of the family gathering at grandma’s house for a country dinner, with biscuits, and a table full of desserts.

Miss the old gospel songs sung by my mom and her sisters as they cleaned the dishes.

Precious memories.

Life is different now, families scattered, separated, and busy.

Love, blessings, and precious memories to all today.

Are You Ready For Easter?

Just simple Easter plans this year, me, my husband, and our son.

My sweet little family.

So thankful that the sun finally came out after a rainy week, shining on my beautiful front door wreath.

I love adding fun touches to my home for all holidays.

Not a bunch of money is always available to buy decorations, so a cute inexpensive something I do, is to make banners.

Maybe it is because of a childhood passion of cutting paperdolls, that makes me want to work and create with paper.

Just like quilters, and folks who sew collect fabric pieces, I find it hard to pass up a lovely piece of paper or cardstock.

I printed out some Beatrix Potter bunnies for the entryway mirror, and just different spring colors and patterns for the dining hutch.

Whimsy touches that I love!

Every year, I also print out and frame, a reminder of the real reason of this holy time of the year.

Easter dinner will just be in the kitchen, a simple table setting, highlighted by cute bunny plates I found at Hobby Lobby, 40% off, less than $2 each.

This year’s menu will be ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, and a favorite salad my family loves.

Apple pie and ice cream for dessert, with coffee.

Even though I have no grandchildren, and my son is grown, I still love to color eggs at Easter.

This year I tried using cool whip and food coloring to color the eggs, so easy!

The colors and patterns are beautiful.

Hope you all are ready for tomorrow, whether a small or large gathering.

Just being with those you love is such a gift.

So thankful to have my little family with me.

Prayers for those with no one in their lives to share special times, those alone, with no home, or folks to love.

It’s Finally Here – Springtime!

According to the calendar, today is the first day of spring.

Unfortunately, the teasing continues.

Two days of warm temperatures, and then, as is today, cold, rainy, and snow.

This was a photo taken from my front door just a few days ago!

Hibernating is about over!

I guess it is about time to give up my flannel sheets.

Our woodpile is low.

Fires in our wood burning fireplace are coming to an end.

We will miss our fires, they were the center of our home during the cold winter months, drawing us to the glow and warmth.

The change is near with Easter in only two weeks.

My magnolia tree is budding, the daffodils are up, and there are so many robins in our yard, giving my sweet kitty someone to chatter with!

Yesterday, I gathered my spring and Easter items, and I also changed my front door wreath.

It will be nice to be able to sit outside once again.

Longer and warmer days ahead.

Projects will be changing from inside ones, to outside.

Today I will clean a bit, and find just the right places for all of my bunnies and chicks!

Easter Memories

I have such fond memories of Easter as a child and would like to share a few with all of you today.

We always had new outfits, my sister and I had new dresses, sweet hats, purses, and white gloves. My brother had a new suit and always a bow tie. I do remember getting Easter baskets full of goodies.

ydmWe went to church on Easter morning, and then a trip with my grandmother to the cemetery placing flowers on my grandfather’s grave. This was something we did every Easter.

granny 001This is something that I continue to do to this day.  Tomorrow I will visit my sweet Mother’s grave who is now in heaven.

We then went to Granny’s house for Easter dinner.  Everyone was there, aunts, uncles, and cousins.  There was always so much food, I especially loved my aunt’s homemade biscuits along with Granny’s gravy.

There was always a table filled with desserts, all homemade.  I remember chocolate cake, a stacked apple cake, Granny made, and my aunt’s coconut cream pie.  Yummy!

After dinner a favorite memory was my Mother and her sisters doing the dishes and singing old gospel songs.  They would sing, and cry, and laugh.  It makes me so sad that they have all passed away.  Thank God for memories.  My heart is full of joy remembering them all together in the kitchen.

These were some of the good memories of my childhood.

Bunny in a Pot for Easter!

I have had these little bunnies for years and I thought how cute they would be in small clay pots with grass and some eggs. As you can see in the photo above, adding names made them really sweet table place settings.

Simple, easy, and so cute on the dinner table.

I already had all the supplies, so nothing to buy.  Micheal’s Crafts does carry the small pots and the raffia type grass i used.

Simple Easter Place SettingI just added grass to the pot and secured with a little hot glue on the bottom and a little on the back of the bunny to secure to the side of the pot.  Using my computer I printed out the names on card stock, cut out with a scalloped paper punch, and glued to a toothpick and then glued to the inside of the pot.  That was it!

Oh, I forgot the eggs, they can be any kind.  I used some small wooden ones that I had but you actually could use foil covered eggs or jellybeans.

It makes all of us feel good to make something creative from our “stash” of supplies.

Kid’s Easter Napkin Rings Made With Scraps of Card Stock!

If you are having Easter dinner, making a table just for the kids can be so special for them and fun for you at the same time!

Chicks and Bunny Napkin Rings

Since I used my scraps of paper card stock these napkin rings cost me nothing to make.

Here is what is needed to make these cute napkin rings:

– card stock scraps (white, pink, yellow, and orange)

– a 2-1/2″ circle punch or you can trace around a can or cup the size you want

– tape and glue

-black acrylic paint or a black marker

– sticky glue dots (optional)

Chicks:

Chick Napkin RingsAfter you have cut out all the pieces needed from the card stock, simply glue the pieces to the round head piece.  The “feather” top piece is glued to the back of the chick’s head, glue the feet pieces to the lower front part of the round piece and the beak piece somewhere in the center.

Add two small dots for the eyes, and something I always do is to add some blush cheeks.  I use a stencil brush with very little paint, almost dry to do this.  Practice first!

The long paper strip is 8″ long and about 1-3/4″ wide.  Tape or glue the paper strip together to form the napkin ring, and then glue the round piece to the strip.  I used sticky glue dots which have sticky on both ends to raise the round piece up from the strip.  I like the look, but if you do not have sticky glue dots just any paper glue will work.  See photo below.

Glue dots are only $1.00 a pack at Micheal’s.

Bunny:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAs with the chicks, after you have cut out all the pieces you need from the card stock, simply glue them to the round piece.  The small piece shown in pink, which is the inside of the bunny’s ears, should be glued to the front side of the ears, and then the ears should be glued to the back of the bunny’s head.  Glue the nose piece somewhere in the center.

Add two small dots for the eyes, and again something I always do is to add some blush cheeks.  I used a stencil brush with very little paint, almost dry to do this.  Practice first!

On the bunny also add whisker lines and a line for the mouth, as shown in the photos. Add the head piece to the round napkin ring strip (8″ long and 1-1/2″ wide) using the sticky glue dots or just any paper glue.

For fun you could make these with your kids to put on the plates of everyone coming for dinner.

The cute dot plates were under a dollar at Walmart.

So cute, so easy, and so much fun!
