A “Sweet” Table on Mother’s Day

Hello, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and a blessed Mother’s Day.

My day was so beautiful.

I was able to spend some time with my sister, received many messages, with oh so many “I love you’s”, from all those in my life.

A special “sweet” gift arrived at my from door this weekend.

Mini cheesecakes from my nieces, strawberry, cookies and cream, and a plain one, all with almond icing.

I thought I would use these treats as an excuse to set a beautiful table for me and my family to share the cheesecakes with our afternoon coffee.

For a table runner I used a piece of leftover wallpaper from an old project.

A simple floral pattern.

I had seen this idea several times on Pinterest, was so happy to try it myself.

Gathered all my table pieces, especially the pink glasses and plate chargers, to add more color.

The cheesecakes made a beautiful centerpiece.

Setting this table was a pretty gift to myself on Mother’s Day.

Who would think that an old piece of leftover wallpaper could make such a beautiful table.

Thank you Amanda and Dianna for the “sweet” Mother’s Day gift, it was special, and so yummy!

Love to all, especially all the Moms.

A Gift From Momma

Tiny stitches, each one made by hand.

Thousands of them.

Made by my Momma.

This quilt, a gift to me, made with so much love.

She has been gone for years, but she is with me, always in my heart.

I cherish this beautiful gift.

Oh my, the time she spent cutting out each piece, sewing each together, and quilting, always with her thimble on her finger, amazing!

There is so much I would love to say and ask Momma today.

How happy I would be to just hug her today.

If your Mother is still with you, spend time with her today, talk to her, love her and tell her.

Just be with her.

Store up precious memories, you won’t regret it.

Happy Mother’s Day to all moms today, and to my Momma in heaven.

A Last Minute Gift Idea

Sharing a sweet, thoughtful, simple, gift idea with everyone today.

A gift with meaning, to give for almost any occasion, even a last minute Mother’s Day gift!

Taking photos is a big part of all of our lives today, so for this gift, simply choose a favorite photo, a double frame, a quote, saying, poem, or in one of my examples, song lyrics.

Choose words related to the photo, or words that have sentimental value to the recipient.

Since tomorrow is Mother’s Day, I made this one for myself.

My favorite photo of my son, very small, framed with a beautiful thought on having a son.

It sits in my bedroom, next to a photo of me and my husband, on our wedding day, the three of us, many years ago, my family.

Oh my, love it!

You can see the simplicity of this gift idea.

Here’s one I made for my sister and brother-in-law, for their anniversary.

Such a silly photo taken on a family vacation.

We all had to make tin foil hats as part of a game. So many laughs!

I paired the photo with song lyrics that captured the photo, song lyrics, that have special meaning to my sister.

Selected a whimsy font when I typed the lyrics, whimsy and fun like the photo.

It’s so cute!

My last example, a birthday gift, expressing love for a special little boy, a sweet boy, my nieces love so much.

The little boy, the son of one of their best friends, has been in their lives since he was born.

Again, I hope that you all can see how simple, and easy.

Print the photo, the words, and frame, that’s it!

What I really love about giving this as a gift, is that hopefully, the recipient sees the thoughtfulness, and love, that went into putting it together.

It’s a keepsake!

Love, family, friends, that’s what this idea is about!

Please don’t forget your Moms tomorrow, and those ladies in your life who are special.

So much love in my heart for all today!

Note Cards For Moms

Yesterday was a beautiful Mother’s Day, I was so blessed to be able to spend most of my day with my son.

My son is my special gift from God, the one thing in my crazy up and down life that I got right.  He is special, a good and decent human being, and oh I love him so.  Jim is so very good to me, unconditional love.

Since my mother has gone to be with the Lord, my sister plays a huge part in my life.  I was thankful to be able to spend some time with her as well on this beautiful day.

Also received Mother’s Day wishes, with love, from my nieces, and to end my wonderful day, a call from my sweet brother.

Every Mother’s Day I try to reach out to friends to let them know they are appreciated, especially single moms, what an unbelievably difficult job they have!

Many times I have mentioned my lack of extra money, so I try to make simple gifts, costing very little, whenever I can.

This year I decided on note cards with a personal touch.

My cards were made from photos I have taken over the years.  Photos from vacations, family gatherings, special visits, or celebrations.

The cards were so very easy to make.  Simply select the photos you like, tweak if necessary, lightening them up or cropping, and print out on white card stock.

I cut them down to a 4 x 6 note card size and folded.  Purchased envelopes, and finished up by tying with ribbon or twine.

The note cards were just so fun to make.  Looking through all the photos I have saved over the years gave me endless ideas. A personal gift for so many occasions, for so many people in my life.

What fun around the Christmas season tied up in a bright red ribbon!

Maybe I am old-fashioned, but in this tech world we have lost something by not actually writing and sending letters and notes.  Love going to the mailbox and finding a card or a note from folks in my life.  Too busy, everyone is just too busy!

I love when a gift comes back, I just received a warm call from one of those single moms who received her cards, a former co-worker.  She loved them!

Hope your Mother’s Day was as special as mine, filled with love.

Mom and Me!

When cleaning out one of my many closets that need attention, I ran across this photo of me and my dear, loving mom.

Me with DollI love this photo for so many reasons.

It was taken on my grandma’s porch, and I also know that the doll belonged to her.  She would keep the doll on a bed in one of her bedrooms.  The doll’s name was Nancy.

Wish I could ask the person who took the photo if they meant to include my mom, since she appears so far off to the side. I am so happy, one way or another, that they did, she looks so beautiful, and she is smiling, probably trying to get me to look at the camera.  Love her flowered dress, the type I remember her wearing so often, such a sweet print, wish I could remember the color.

Love the old mail box by the door, the flower pots and plants, watered and cared for by my grandma, I’m sure.  Do you all remember those metal porch chairs?

Oh my gosh, I love my little shoes, tied with perfect bows by my mom, and the little sundress I am wearing.

And on this Mother’s Day I wish I could be that little girl for just 5 minutes to tell my momma, “love you”, and to hold and hug her as tight as I could.

Thank God for all the photos I have, and love so much, of all those I love who are with me and those in heaven.

Blessings and love on this Mother’s Day.

So sweet, so easy!

Today I would like to share a really sweet, and oh so easy Mother’s Day gift idea.

Photo charms for bracelets or necklaces.

PHOTO CHARMSI made these for myself!  A photo of me and my husband smooching on our wedding day, over 45 years ago, and my dear son when he was so small.  Our favorite photo ever of him.

This one is of my dear mother, now in heaven.  Miss her so very much.  It was a photo taken on her last birthday.  She is blowing out the candles on her birthday cake!

Mom with charmsThere are so many charms that can also be added for a bit of extra sweetness.

Kid’s artwork, a meaningful quote or saying reduced to size, would also work great.

The next photo is one of a piece of old lace placed in a locket.  The lace was on my First Communion veil when I was a child.  My mom made the veil and at the time I was sad that I did not have a really fancy store bought one like so many of the other little girls.

I wanted to frame the lace to remind myself of how horrible I was not to realize I had the best veil, one made with my mother’s love in every tiny stitch.

LACEAll you need to make any of these is one quick trip to Michael’s.

They have a nice selection of charms and lockets that are so inexpensive. There are many bracelets and chains to choose from as well.

Charm AssortmentJust select your photos, reduce on your computer, and print.

Trace the photos to the size of your locket or charm and assemble.

That is it!

Help your kids make some for mom or grandma, they will love these as if they were made of real gold or silver.  Place them in a box with a ribbon and a handmade card or drawing.

Hope you all are working on your special mom’s gift for Sunday.

Happy Friday!

XO

“Happy Mother’s Day to my Mom”

Today is Mother’s Day and I want to wish all mothers a blessed day.

This is my beautiful Mom, now in heaven.

Happy Birthday Mom!I love this photo of her on one of her last birthdays.

I decided to use this photo because I know that she is celebrating Mother’s Day, hopefully with a yummy piece of cake, with her mother today.  How I miss my mother and grandmother.

Let me share my thoughts, regrets, and memories,

  • Why didn’t I spend more time with you, I would give everything for one more day with you!
  • I miss calling you and hearing you say “Hi Sweetie”, and closing every call with “I love you”.
  • Why did I argue politics with you?  So silly!  The anxiety it brought to both of us was not worth a moment of our time together.
  • Oh, why didn’t I appreciate the First Communion dress you made me by hand. So many tiny, perfect stitches made with love, but at the time I wanted one with all the lace and ruffles other little girls had.  Forgive me.
  • Miss our craft days together.  You always helped me and supported me when I thought I could make a ton of money at the next craft fair.  Those days always started with you making breakfast for us.  I miss the smell of biscuits, gravy, bacon, and eggs, when you opened the door of your apartment.
  • I remember coming home from school to a clean house and you standing ironing, whether for us or for others, to make a little extra money for us.
  • If I close my eyes I can almost feel your hugs.  How I wish you were here to give me one today!

Mother I have learned enough now

To know I have learned nearly nothing.

On this day

When mothers are being honored,

Let me thank you

That my selfishness, ignorance, and mockery

Did not bring you to

Discard me like a broken doll

Which had lost its favor.

I thank you that

You still find something in me

To cherish, to admire, and to love,

I thank you, Mother.

I love you.

Maya Angelou – A Cradle to Hold Me

Happy Mother’s Day, to my sweet, loving Mother, all she ever wanted was to be a Mother and Grandmother.

Love you “Sweetie”.

Last Minute Gifts for Mom!

Last Minute Gifts for Mother's Day

  • Bath and Body Works has some wonderful pump hand soaps that are inexpensive. Right now they are 5 for $18. They have such a large variety of new scents.  Lemon, Melon, Sweet Tangerine, Strawberry, and Peaches.  The foaming type is really good.  This is a useful gift and every Mom loves things that smell good. Slip the soaps in cellophane bags and tie with a ribbon.  In the photo above, you can see that I printed out quotes about moms and attached to each bag for an extra little touch.
  • Frame a photo for Mom. Below is one of our family members with her Mom taken last week.  Wrap in a gift box with bright tissue paper and add a sweet ribbon.
  • Last Minute Gifts for Mother's Day After 40 most of us need to start using “readers”, so why not buy Mom a few pair so she can have a pair to grab in every room.  If you wear “readers” you know how much she would love this, especially if she sews, reads, or crafts.  Michael’s Crafts has really crazy cute patterns, for only $2.99 a pair.  Again, put in a cellophane bag and tie with a ribbon!

Last Minute Gifts for Mother's DayHope you can use these last minute inexpensive ideas.

Just an added note, don’t forget to appreciate all the single moms out there.  What a very hard job they have raising children alone.  How do they do it?  These special women do not get enough credit for all that they do!

Getting up, dressing for work, trying to look your best, and then getting the kids up, dressing them, feeding them, packing lunches, and driving them to school or day care, and still getting to work on time.

If you have a single mom friend, give them a small gift, let them know they are appreciated.

God Bless all of them on Mother’s Day!

The Forgotten Mother!

Many thoughts on being a mother this week.

When you become a mother you want to always protect your children from the troubles, hurts, and heartaches in life, even when they are grown.

During Easter season I watched “Passion of Christ’, the graphic movie on the killing of Jesus.

I am sharing this scene with all mothers.  It is heartbreaking.

Our children grow up and leave us to start their own lives but as all mothers know, they will always be our little ones.

Mary holding Jesus, and comforting Him as a child when he falls down, is so precious!
